It was erected between 1741 and 1744 as the Point de vue at the end of the garden.
Zacharias Longuelune designed the water work of art and Lorenzo Mattielli created the figures.

Neptune at a cliff-top height is brandishing his three-pronged spear and standing in a shell wagon which is being pulled by two seasoned water-spitting veteran hippos while Amphitrite is standing at his side. The wagon is being steered by Nereid and Zephyrus. Triton is blowing into the conch and Neptune’s foot is standing on a water-spitting dolphin. Three basins in which spring water is pouring are positioned one on top of the other in terrace form with one taking the overflowing water of the other. To the right and left the river gods Tiber and Nile are standing on pedestals. The reliefs on the pedestals show Romulus and Remus (the founders of Rome) and an Egyptian landscape with pyramids and the Sphinx. Two water fountains are gushing from the rocks of the lower basin. The arrangement is completed with vases containing reliefs showing the legends of Apollo, Artemis, Dionysus and Pan. |
